Fall has settled in but that doesn’t mean you have to, there are so many wonderful Fall and Halloween experiences available at Vancouver’s top attractions. Explore some of these and make this season one to remember!
Start with an outdoor adventure either at Capilano Suspension Bridge, Vancouver’s oldest attraction, where more than just frightening heights are available with their annual Canyon Frights event, October 11 – 31. Join Elizabeth and Mac, the original owners of Capilano Suspension Bridge, as you tour the Park’s illuminations and displays. There are tons of surprises and family friendly activities to enjoy.
Or pop into one, or more of our garden partners to enjoy the fall colours, Vandusen Gardens also hosts Harvest Days, from now until October 20, with extras including special features in The Maze, live music and more food vendors are on site to add to the fun! Also open Thanksgiving Monday.
There are at least two opportunities, from our attractions, that take you indoors and outdoors, for the first, head up Highway 99 to Britannia Mine Museum who is hosting Fang – Tastic Halloween Event which is featured for two weekends starting October 17. These family friendly event days include the Castle of Myths, and special Underground Tours featuring the Myth of the Vampire challenge. While the Vancouver Aquarium, always a family favourite, features their annual Fintastic Fall Days, where the magic of the season meets the wonders of the sea. Immerse yourself in interactive fall fun with their limited-time 4D Movie, kelp forest maze, spooky scavenger hunts, and hands-on Shipwreck Wet Lab experience. Connect with curious creatures during seasonal animal programs, like fang-tastic Bat Talks! And watch in amazement as our skilled underwater pumpkin carvers bring gourd-geous creations to life, surrounded by aquatic friends, this special programming runs until October 31.
And of course, not for the faint of heart, but most certainly for those seeking a scare, Halloween season would not be complete without a visit to Playland’s Fright Nights. Featuring amusement rides in the dark, Haunted Houses and new features including a witches trial, three possible outcomes in this live show Trials of the Night. Book through playland.ca. While Burnaby Village Museum’s annual “Haunted Village” is more family friendly but serves up a wonderful mix of live entertainment, excellent light and fall displays and hands on fun that everyone will enjoy book at burnabyvillagemuseum.com/hauntedvillage.
Looking for more Halloween specific experiences… start with the family friendly seasonal FlyOver Experience, with their seasonal favourite, Howlover Canada, which sees Biker Mama taking to her broomstick and takes a flight path across Canada in FlyOver’s original Canadian experience with a bewitching perspective. Or how about this one-night event, October 26 at Dr Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden, where you can take in the eerie beauty as you experience the tale of the Whispering Ghost Bride, who comes to haunt those who dare to find her. This is an immersive experience that will take you on a spine-chilling journey through Chinese folklore.
For slightly less spine-tingling experiences explore our museums and galleries this Fall, many of whom are featuring limited time exhibits for all interests. Start on the North Shore with a combo visit to The Polygon Gallery currently hosting, Tales from the Crypt, curiosities and wonders from The Polygon vault, and MONOVA, the Museum of North Vancouver, that offers an in depth look at the history of Vancouver’s North Shore and is hosting Found in the Mountains, a limited time exhibition that explores the iconic beauty, and the landscape for adventure and the cultural beacon North Vancouver’s mountains are for the entire Lower Mainland. Come and step into the forest, reflect and discover the wonders within these ancient sentinels’ shape how we live, play and connect. Or head over to the Vancouver Maritime Museum, where there are four feature exhibitions including Artic Passageways, the story of the explorers attempting to map the Northwest Passage through Inuit Nunangat is told through objects, art, and a library of archival letters. The experience is completed with a tour of the St. Roch, a National Historic Site, and one of the key elements of this story. The hands-on Kids Area, recently reopened, is sure to please the younger explorers in your crew.
